The death of Mr John Attfield took place at Ashlands, Watford, and not at Catford as stated. A correspondent writes that it was largely through Mr Attfield's efforts as editor of the Addendum to the Pharmacopaeia (publ. 1890) that the collaboration of medical men and pharmacists in the production of the Pharmacopaeia was first openly effected. Mr Attfield was also the author of a Manual of Chemistry, which reached 19 editions, and in addition to his work as a teacher had a large practice as a consulting and analytical chemist. The Times, 22.3.1911
John married Martha Harvey, daughter of Samuel Harvey and Susannah Smith, on 3 Aug 1865 in Wesleyan Chapel, Manningtree, Essex. (Martha Harvey was born on 3 Dec 1841 in Manningtree, Essex and died on 1 Mar 1917 in Ashlands, Langley Road, Watford, Herts.)
