Lawford, Essex: The charity estate consists of a large house, barn, and 22A. of land, let for £42, a garden let for £4, and 12A. now forming part of Mrs. Greene's park, and held by her on lease, at the yearly rent of £21. Mr. James May is one of the trustees, and a large portion of the income is distributed annually in clothing, and the rest is applied in supporting a dame school.

The Will with three Codicils of James May late of Lawford in the County of Essex Gentleman deceased who died 14 February 1869 at Lawford aforesaid was proved at the Principal Registry by the oaths of William May of Brantham in the County of Suffolk Merchant the Nephew and John Matthew Constable of Mistley in the County of Essex aforesaid Gentleman and John May of Mistley aforesaid Gentleman the Brother three of the Executors. Effects under £14,000.
