Luke and George Blumer, shipbuilding firm 1848-1868
Blumer’s main trade was ship repairing. This sometimes included buying ships which had been stranded or wrecked, repairing them, and selling them for profit. They only built new ships when business was quiet, in order to keep their workforce employed. In the twenty years the firm existed, they only built ten ships. When the business closed after George Blumer’s death, the yard was taken over by the neighbouring shipyard of Denton, Gray.
While in business, Blumers traded under the company names of:
* Luke Blumer and Son
* George Blumer
