Alfred Edward Hanscomb's journalistic career spanned the Bournemouth Observer from 1893 to 1898, the Press Association, and a spell in South Africa working for the Bloemfontein Post.
Born at Greenwich in 1858, he joined the Institute of Journalists in 1889. In 1918 he joined the Parliamentary branch of the National Union of Journalists. He left journalism in 1927 and died in Cornwall in 1944.
