He was there in the 1920s; he set up his younger son Eric Norman Ellis in business there as a poultry farmer, originally trading as F B Ellis & Son, and in 1934 (shortly after the son's marriage in 1933) dissolved the partnership & left him to run the business. Presumably F B Ellis left Mow Cop in the 1930s. Norman Ellis (as the son was always known) remained living on his smallholding on Mow Cop as a small-time poultry & pig farmer for the rest of his life.

Frederick Bartley Ellis (who had lived briefly at Mow Cop in the 1900s, presumably as an assistant school teacher) returned to Mow Cop as headmaster of the Board School.
