O'Meehan, Dr John Albert (1853–1907). Dr. John Albert O'Meehan, well known in medical and sporting circles, passed away at Nurse McKimmie'e private hospital, at half-past 6 o'clock on Saturday evening, after an illness extending over several weeks. The deceased, who was 54 years of age at the time of his death, was born in Ireland and came to Western Australia when a young man. He entered the Government service, and held appointments for many years in connection with the Medical Department. He was stationed in the Geraldton district for a number of years, and was for some time Resident Medical Officer at Greenough. In 1896 he was appointed Chief Medical Officer at the Kalgoorlie Hospital, from which position he retired in 1905. Dr. O'Meehan had been twice married - first to Miss Pearson, and after her death to Miss Emma de Lisle, who also predeceased him. By the first marriage he had a daughter (Mrs. I. S. Emanuel) and a son (Frank). The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon, and was very largely attended, among those present being a large number of representatives of the principal racing clubs, trainers, and jockeys. The cortege moved from the residence of his son-in-law (Mr. I. S. Emanuel), "Urella," Bellevue-ter., Perth, and proceeded to the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Karrakatta, where the remains were interred. The Rev. Father T. O'Brien officiated at the graveside. The pall-bearers were Mr. A. Monger, Mr. G. Wickham, Mr. C. Cox, Chief Justice Parker, Mr. N. Keenan, and Mr. G. H. Cooke. The chief mourners were Mr. Frank O'Meehan (son) and Mr. I. S. Emanuel (son in-law). Wreaths and floral tributes were numerous.
