Probably the most famous son was Killingworth William Hedges 1850 - 1945 son of William Killingworth Hedges and Harriet Butler. He invented a bicycle in 1865, but was most famous for his work as an electrical engineer. He introduced electric lighting for dock work, was consulted regarding the
lighting of St. Paul's Cathedral in 1899 and was responsible for the improvement and installation of lightening conductors amongst many other things.
