Note on Husband: Edward Graham Paley (1)
Architect. Edward Graham Paley was Lancaster's leading architect in the 1850s, and a council member of the Royal Institute of British Architects. In 1845 he became a partner in the architects firm Sharpe Paley & Austin, which was notable for designing many important buildings in the Lancashire and Furness areas, not least the stations along the Furness Railway (of which Grange-over-Sands is the most striking example). The Catholic Cathedral of St Peter, Lancaster, 1857-59, with its beautifully designed spire, is regarded by many as Paley's masterwork.
