Frederick William Duffield - my father - b 1882 - attended Ipswich Grammar School and Cambridge University - a classics teacher till the war; Lieut Col in the war - served in Gallipoli and France - wounded 1917 - after war became an Inspector of Schools; married my mother - Marie Lilian Eccles (an actress) in 1926; I am the only child (and the last of this part of the family with the Bendall name) b 1927. He was made Director of Army Education in the 1939 war and retired in 1945 - died in 1953.
